Just days after casting the deciding votes to defund health clinics, Senators Jeff Flake and Dean Heller commemorate Equal Pay Day with a whopping 18 combined votes against equal pay for women. In Arizona, women are paid 17% less than men, and in Nevada, women make 84 cents to every dollar earned by a man.
“In 2017 it shouldn’t need to be stated that men and women who work equal jobs deserve equal pay. Across the country, women earn only 80 cents for every dollar that a man makes. In Arizona, it’s 83 and in Nevada it’s 84 – the fact that these discrepancies still exist in 2017 show we need to do more,” said DSCC Communications Director Lauren Passalacqua. “We cannot afford Senators like Jeff Flake and Dean Heller who continue to undermine our fight for a fair economy. It is time for all lawmakers to put their constituents ahead of party politics and make sure the workplace is fair for everyone – no matter her gender.”
