Tom Lopach, Executive Director of the DSCC made the following statement regarding the NRSC's despicable allegation that Veteran Tammy Duckworth is siding with terrorists:
GOP’S COLORADO DISASTER GETS WORSE. In case you thought it couldn’t get worse for Republicans in Colorado – it did. After months of drama and infighting within the state Republican Party and four of the GOP’s top-choice candidates quickly passing on the race, focus shifted to second-tier candidates. This week, District Attorney George Brauchler became the latest Colorado Republican to pass on challenging Michael Bennet in 2016.
Rob Portman’s extreme positions on women’s health care are no secret – he’s voted multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood and deny access to affordable health care for millions of women across the country. But this week, Senator Portman took things one step further during an interview on Fox Business when he suggested that some women’s health care services are not “legitimate” or “needed."
The DSCC today announced that Sadie Weiner has been promoted to fill the role of Communications Director effective next Thursday, October 8. Weiner, who currently serves as the DSCC National Press Secretary, is a veteran of multiple Senate campaigns in key battleground states.
As the Republican Senate majority has been driving the country to the brink of another government shutdown, Senator Pat Toomey joined in the partisan obstructionism and voted against a bill to stop the government from shutting down over Planned Parenthood. In response to a slew of negative headlines following the vote, Toomey told one local outlet:
Republicans Senate candidates in Florida, Indiana and Nevada today cast a shameful vote attacking women’s health care despite the fact that a potential government shutdown is just hours away. Reps. Joe Heck, Marlin Stutzman, Todd Young and Ron DeSantis continued to put partisan political games ahead of responsible governing as they wasted time voting to attack women’s health today in the House instead of working to keep the government open.
The DSCC released the following statement from Communications Director Justin Barasky after Senate Republicans took the possibility of a government shutdown down to the wire:
Communications Director Justin Barasky released the following statement after Senators Pat Toomey and John Boozman voted to allow a government shutdown:
“It is stunning that Pat Toomey and John Boozman are so wedded to their blind partisanship that they would vote to allow the government to shut down. Voters will remember that Senators Toomey and Boozman voted to let the government shutdown and picked extremist ideology over commonsense bipartisanship.”
The DSCC released the following statement from Communications Director Justin Barasky on the fallout from Speaker Boehner’s retirement announcement:
“Speaker Boehner’s resignation is a symptom of the Republican Party’s own failed leadership, as once more they have driven their party even further to the right. The dysfunctional Republican Senate will now become even less able to hide their inability to govern responsibly as their tenuous grasp on the majority continues to slip away. We wish Speaker Boehner well in his future endeavors.”
BOEHNER’S DEMISE CONSISTENT W/ GOP RIGHTWARD SHIFT. When someone as conservative as John Boehner is no longer acceptable to lead the Republicans, the party is surely headed for self-inflicted irrelevance by way of far-right extremism. And as the House Republicans devolve into total chaos, they will undoubtedly drag the already dysfunctional GOP Senate along with them, which is a major problem for vulnerable 2016 Senators like Kelly Ayotte, Rob Portman, Ron Johnson, Mark Kirk and Pat Toomey who are already furiously trying to rewrite their out-of-touch records.
