WITH SENATE ADVANCING JOBS BILL TODAY, CONGRESSMAN BLUNT CONTINUES TO OPPOSE EFFORTS TO CREATE MISSOURI JOBS

Congressman Blunt Opposed The Bipartisan Jobs Bill But Can’t Seem To Settle On A Good Reason Why

Even Senator Bond Voted Yes To HIRE Act

What Reason Will Congressman Blunt Offer Up Today?

Despite giving lip service to job creation on the campaign trail in Missouri, Congressman Blunt continues to vote against any and all efforts to jumpstart job creation. Today, the U.S. Senate voted to advance a bipartisan jobs bill to the floor of the Senate for a final up and down vote, to be held sometime in the next thirty hours. Despite the job creation bill holding the promise of creating up to one million jobs nationwide, and including tax breaks for small business, and even with Senator Kit Bond voting to advance the bill, Congressman Roy Blunt continues to oppose the bill and has yet to settle on a good reason why.

Following the original vote on the jobs bill in the Senate, Congressman Blunt said he would have voted against the bill because the bill wasn’t large enough and he would have “held out for the larger bill.” Then, following the vote on the bill in the House, Congressman Blunt justified his “no” vote by saying the bill was too large and that “Washington Democrats threw more of Americans’ hard-earned money at the problem, passing a $15 billion so-called jobs bill that's just more of the same.” With the job creation bill headed to a final up and down vote in the Senate, what reason will Congressman Blunt give today for opposing it?

“Congressman Blunt has been in politics long enough to know that actions speak louder than words, but despite offering cheap lip service on the campaign trail, Congressman Blunt has opposed all the latest efforts to create new jobs,” said DSCC National Press Secretary Deirdre Murphy. “Congressman Blunt’s DC doubletalk is just the latest reason he can’t be trusted to help Missouri’s middle class families.”

Washington insider Congressman Blunt’s record of standing up for middle-class Missouri families is not one to be proud of. Blunt rubberstamped the disastrous policies put into place by former President George W. Bush that protected Wall Street and exploded the federal deficit. And now he continues to stand in the way of commonsense efforts to jumpstart job creation. The people of Missouri can thank Blunt for thousands of lost jobs, tax credits for corporations that move their jobs overseas, and a huge trade imbalance.
