The Year of the (Anti) Woman?
You NEED to watch this video, but be warned. It’s disturbing and shocking, and not at all appropriate for children:
Republican Linda McMahon is running for the United States Senate, and she’s funding her race with the millions she earned peddling the "entertainment" you just watched to kids. Outrageous violence. Explicit sexual content. Extremely misogynistic story lines. One has to wonder, did more graphic, more anti-woman programming lead to higher profits for Linda McMahon and her “entertainment” enterprise?
The total disrespect for women – and the children watching – is disgusting.
But this is only the most recent example of disturbing Republican views on women and women’s issues. You might call it “The Republican Anti-Woman Year.”
For example:
· Sen. David Vitter – he of prostitution-scandal fame – has yet to explain why he kept employing an aide for TWO YEARS after the aide held a woman hostage for 90 minutes and slashed her neck with a knife. And here’s the ultimate irony: The aid was assigned to work on WOMEN’S ISSUES.
· Sharron Angle – running for the Senate in Nevada – suggested that women who are raped – including teenage incest victims – shouldn’t even be allowed to consider getting an abortion. Instead, they should just “turn a lemon situation into lemonade.” Outrageous.
· 30 Republican senators voted AGAINST the Franken amendment – which would withhold defense contracts from companies that prevented employees who were raped from having their day in court. Those senators include a number of Republicans seeking re-election, including once again, Sen. Vitter, as well as Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina and Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina.
There’s no other conclusion we can draw: Republicans are running a bunch of candidates who have an utter lack of respect for women.
