DSCC Launches NEW Digital Ad Targeting Ernst for Raising Taxes on Gold Star Families

Facebook ad holds Senator Ernst accountable for voting to hike taxes on Gold Star families

“Joni Ernst voted for a tax law that HIKED taxes on Iowa Gold Star families, forcing some military families to pay thousands of dollars more in taxes on their survivor benefits.”

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is launching a new digital ad today to make sure Iowans know Senator Joni Ernst voted for a painful tax hike on Gold Star families when she voted in 2017 for the reckless Republican tax law. The ad will run as part of a five-figure digital buy across battleground states.

While some Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have been working on a fix, Ernst, who voted proudly for the tax bill that caused this mess, is not owning up to the consequences of her vote. Instead, she’s been sitting on the sidelines, appearing to decline to co-sponsor the legislation while her Senate colleagues work across party lines to undo this cruel penalty hurting Gold Star families.

From Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Press Secretary Stewart Boss: “Senator Joni Ernst voted to give tax handouts to wealthy CEOs and huge corporate special interests while hiking taxes on Iowa families who have lost a loved one in military service. We’ll make sure voters don’t forget that Ernst helped pass a reckless law forcing Gold Star families to pay higher taxes on survivor benefits, and that she’s not even working to pass the bill to clean up her mess and fix this cruel penalty.”
