DSCC Releases New Video On Scott’s Offensive Comments on Puerto Rico

Rick Scott: ‘I don’t know what I would do differently’ in Puerto Rico

Today the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is releasing digital videos, in both English and Spanish, highlighting Rick Scott’s recent statement that he wouldn’t do anything differently than President Trump’s administration when it comes to Puerto Rico.

The videos contrast Scott’s offensive statement with news reports about Puerto Rico’s continued devastation, a new Harvard study revealing far more individuals died than had been previously reported, and President Trump’s infamous, “abominable” paper towel incident.

Scott’s comments also cast a spotlight on his broader record: he kicked Puerto Rican evacuees out of an event that had been billed as a Puerto Rican listening session; cut affordable housing funds contributing to the housing crisis in the Puerto Rican community; and refuses to stand up to President Trump as his administration cut off aid to the island and fails to respond effectively to this continuing crisis. Scott has also drawn condemnation from Florida’s Puerto Rican leaders who said he “did little more than visit the island for a photo op” and that “Scott has always put himself and his interests first at the expense of Floridians, particularly our Puerto Rican community.”

From David Bergstein, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman: “Scott’s offensive comments capture exactly what Puerto Ricans — and all Floridians — don’t like about him: he doesn’t tell the truth, won’t stand up to his close ally President Trump, and he cares more about his self-serving political agenda than Florida families”
