Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Spokesman David Bergstein issued the following statement on developments in the Republican Senate primary in Tennessee:
“Another bad day for Mitch McConnell: he lost the candidate he personally tried to recruit and gained one who is already insulting his leadership. Congresswoman Blackburn will try to mimic the insurgent rhetoric that’s captivated the Republican base, but make no mistake: she’s Washington through-and-through. The Congresswoman voted for the GOP’s ‘mean’ plan that would force Tennesseans to pay more for health care, impose an age tax, and gut coverage for pre-existing conditions. She wrote a bill to undermine Social Security and is a part of the failed majority she criticizes. Congresswoman Blackburn represents exactly what voters of both parties hate about politics, and Tennesseans will have every opportunity to hold her accountable as Republicans confront yet another divisive and expensive primary.”
