DSCC Statement on Super Tuesday

DSCC Communications Director Sadie Weiner issued the following statement on Super Tuesday:

“Tonight’s results are a new low for Republican Senate candidates, and they have no one to blame but themselves. It’s not just that vulnerable incumbents vowed repeatedly to support the party’s nominee, it’s that they praised Donald Trump’s candidacy, tied themselves to him to boost their own campaigns, and failed to confront his toxic rhetoric. Their recklessness allowed Trump to take over the Republican Party, and has left extremist Ted Cruz as their next best hope for a Trump-free ticket. Alarmingly, by refusing to do their jobs and shutting down the constitutional process, they’re willing to let Trump make a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. With candidates as weak-willed as those running with Donald Trump, there’s no strategy that can salvage Republican down-ballot campaigns.”
