For all of the talk of GOP Senators and candidates trying to run their own races separate from the top of the ticket, the architect of their historically sparse work schedule reiterated their commitment to Donald Trump and his politics of hate and division. Today on Morning Joe, Mitch McConnell said he doesn’t have “any trouble” supporting Donald Trump as the presidential nominee. Watch here:
In other words the Republican Senate Leader doesn’t have “any trouble” with a man who, just this weekend, attacked the Indiana-born judge overseeing the fraud suit against his university for his “Mexican” heritage, thanked police officers for “handling the thugs” at protests of his California event, and has to hold a press conference today to explain his broken promises on donations to veterans’ organizations. In fact, he wants Trump to name the next Supreme Court nominee.
McConnell and his GOP colleagues might have no trouble with Trump, but aligning themselves with his bigoted rhetoric and disastrous policies will be incredibly difficult for them to defend to voters this fall.
