GOP Senators’ Judgment Exposed at Last Night’s Debate

Republicans Continue to Back Nominee Who Brags About Evading Federal Taxes & Profiting Off the Housing Crisis

Last night’s presidential debate exposed to the entire country what Senate Republicans have known for months but ignored: Donald Trump is temperamentally unfit to be our country’s commander-in-chief.

Yet no matter what bigoted or dangerous ideas have come out of Trump’s mouth over the past year, Republican Senators have continued to stand by his side.

Still, last night’s debate brought up more than a few new concerning stances from their party’s nominee that Republican Senators must address:

  • Do they believe Trump is “smart” for evading federal taxes?
  • Do they believe it’s right that their presidential nominee continues to brag that it’s just “business” to profit off the housing crisis?
  • Are they comfortable supporting a nominee who refuses to back down from his sexist remarks?
  • After his nearly incomprehensible answers on foreign policy (and his suggestion that China should invade North Korea), do they still trust him with the nuclear codes?

“Last night’s debate proved not only that Donald Trump lacks the judgment to be our next commander-in-chief, but that Senate Republicans lack the judgment to condemn their divisive and dangerous nominee,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “Since there is nothing Donald Trump can do to keep Senate Republicans from supporting him, it is up to them to account for his decision to profit off the pain of hard working Americans and his continued reckless foreign policy agenda.”
