ICYMI: Rick Scott Tries to Block Lawsuit Over Disclosure of Secretive Financial Account

A new report reveals Rick Scott is trying to block a lawsuit over his refusal to disclose the details of his secretive financial account – his so called blind trust. Scott’s efforts to hide his finances and conflicts of interests have led to questions about how he may have used his office to personally enrich himself. Scott’s lawyers filed an appeal just as the DSCC launched an expansive digital ad campaign to highlight how the governor is using this account to avoid disclosure and benefit himself.

“Typical self-serving Rick Scott: he doesn’t want Floridians to know how he’s used the governor’s office to enrich himself, so he’s doing everything he can to hide the details of his secretive financial account,” said David Bergstein, DSCC spokesman. “Scott can try to keep the facts about his conflicts of interests and self-serving financial dealings secret from the public, but that won’t stop voters from asking how much money he made off of the governor’s office at their expense. It’s all just more proof Floridians can’t trust Scott to look out for anyone but himself.”

Scott’s secret financial account is managed by his longtime business partner – something prohibited for federal officeholders – and contains undisclosed assets valued at more than $130 million. One of a pair of digital ads released earlier this week explored how Scott has been caught taking official action to benefit businesses he is invested in but yet still refuses to fully disclose his assets and how much he has gained.
