Heck trying to have it both ways on Trump – says one thing behind closed doors at fundraiser, another when the cameras are around
Congressman Joe Heck may be trying to get credit for his politically motivated decision to try to distance himself from Donald Trump, but a new audio tape reveals that Heck is singing a different tune behind closed doors. CNN reported today that at a closed door GOP event, Congressman Heck aligned himself with Trump, saying he has another chance to turn his campaign around at Wednesday’s Presidential debate and that he agrees with the toxic GOP nominee on 80% of issues.
Regardless of how Heck is trying to portray his relationship with Trump now, the fact remains that he stood by for months as Heck spewed toxic and hateful rhetoric about women, Hispanics, immigrants, veterans, the disabled, and more. It wasn’t until Heck sensed his own political prospects were on the line that he made the politically craven calculation to publicly denounce his support for the GOP nominee.
“Congressman Joe Heck is trying to have it both ways by saying one thing behind closed doors to his donors, and another thing to Nevadans, and that’s exactly what voters hate about Washington politicians,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Nevadans deserve a Senator who will tell it to them straight and always stand up for them – not just when it’s politically convenient. Congressman Heck’s proven that he’s just a DC politician who puts his career before Nevada, and that’s why voters will elect Catherine Cortez Masto in November.”
