MT GOP Senate Primary Heating Up, But Every Candidate Backs Toxic GOP Health Care Plan

It’s no surprise the Republican Senate primary in Montana is heating up — as The Washington Post reported:

Republicans have struggled to recruit top candidates…[and] a lack of a clear leader is leading to a bunch of lower-tier candidates jumping into the race, which means Republicans could spend the next year in potentially expensive (and, in some cases, divisive) primaries.”

But no matter who emerges from this intensifying intra-party brawl, every Republican candidate has one thing in common: they all back the GOP’s toxic health care agenda that would spike premiums, impose an age tax on older Americans and strip away coverage for pre-existing conditions.

From David Bergstein, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Spokesman: “Republican recruitment failures are setting the stage for divisive, crowded GOP Senate primaries — but every potential GOP candidate backs a toxic health care agenda that will spike premiums by 20 percent, impose an age tax on older Americans and strip away coverage for pre-existing conditions — all to give more tax breaks to big insurance companies and the wealthiest few. As this race develops we’re sure to hear exactly what these Republicans don’t like about each other — but they all agree on an expensive, unpopular health care agenda that will force working families to pay more for less care.”

See for yourself:

  • Rosendale Supported Repealing Obamacare Without An Immediate Replacement. “Both U.S. Sen. Steve Daines and state Auditor Matt Rosendale, whose office regulates insurance, told MTN News that the Affordable Care Act now should simply be repealed, without a replacement.  The repeal then can be delayed for two years while Congress works on a replacement, they said. […] ‘I truly believe that it’s a good thing to have the repeal, to have this turned back over to the states,’ [Rosendale] said.” [KXLH, 7/18/17]
  • Fagg Argued The Affordable Care Act Should Have Been Found Unconstitutional. “In the second case, in a country as affluent as the United States everyone should have basic health care. On the other hand, it is tough to swallow when government from afar (the Washington beltway) forces it on us, without our input… A second case is noteworthy, but for a different reason. In King v. Burwell the Supreme Court upheld federally mandated insurance subsidies in 34 states. The problem is that the court actually had to add language to the statute to make the ruling. I was taught only Congress could amend statutes.” [Fagg, Billings Gazette, 7/3/15]
  • Downing Said Republicans Must “Act Now” To Enact Their Health Care Agenda.. Downing posted to Facebook: “Congress needs to act now, not after recess, not in a week, not even tomorrow. Republicans control the House, Senate, and the White House and are running out of excuses for not fixing a broken healthcare system. What are your thoughts on the issue?” [Troy Downing, Campaign Facebook, 7/24/17]
