New Pentagon Report: Spineless GOP Senators Threaten Military Projects In Their Own States

A new report from the Pentagon identifies the military projects in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and North Carolina that are now at risk because Senators Martha McSally, Cory Gardner, David Perdue and Thom Tillis won’t stand up to President Trump — even when his policies could hurt their states.

“Senators McSally, Gardner, Perdue and Tillis were too spineless to stand up and protect military projects in their own states, giving voters a new reason to kick them out of office in 2020,” said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman David Bergstein. “This kind of self-serving politics is exactly why they won’t be re-elected.”

See for yourself:

  • (AZ) KTAR: 6 Arizona military projects, including 2 at Luke, could lose funding to wall. “Five projects at four locations in the state are listed for potential cuts in fiscal year 2019: two at Luke Air Force Base and one each at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Camp Navajo and the Yuma Marine Corps Air Station.”
  • (AZ) Tucson Sentinel: Nearly $150M in Az military projects could be cut for Trump’s border. Emergency. “Despite ‘assurances’ touted by U.S. Sen. Martha McSally, a $30-million construction project at Ft. Huachuca and a $15-million facility at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base are potentially on the chopping block in order to fund a border wall under President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration.”
  • (CO) Colorado Springs Gazette: Trump border wall could take money from Fort Carson.  “U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., exacted a promise from the Trump administration last week that Colorado military construction money wouldn’t be ‘repurposed’ for the wall,  […] But the Pentagon included the Fort Carson project on its list.”
  • (GA) Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Pentagon: Millions could be cut from Ga. military projects to cover border wall. “Funding for more than a half-dozen Army, Navy and Air Force projects from Columbus to Augusta could be affected. That includes $99 million for a cyber instructional facility at Fort Gordon, nearly $31 million for a hangar at Moody Air Force base and more than $75 million for a combat vehicle warehouse and body repair shop at Albany’s Marine Corps Logistics Base.”
  • (NC) Winston-Salem Journal: Pentagon lists possible project cuts to pay for wall, including some in N.C. “The list included more than $100 million for water treatment plant improvements at Camp Lejeune and airfield security and other work at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in North Carolina. That is the home state to Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, who initially said he opposed Trump’s emergency but voted for it.”
