New Report: GOP’s Latest Health Care Bill Slashes Hoosiers’ Medicaid & Will Spike Costs

Bill also guts coverage for preexisting conditions, allows insurers to charge older Americans up to 5 times more

A new report from the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) reveals that the latest version of the Republican’s toxic health care agenda, Graham-Cassidy-Heller, would slash funding for Medicaid in Indiana by $4.8 billion — spiking costs and jeopardizing coverage for hardworking Hoosiers. The CBPP also found that the GOP’s bill would gut coverage for pre-existing conditions, and The Kaiser Family Foundation found it would allow insurers to charge older Americans up to 5 times more.

Congressmen Todd Rokita and Luke Messer voted earlier this year on the House bill that would also make deep cuts to Medicaid funding, eliminate coverage for preexisting conditions, impose an age tax and force Hoosiers to pay more for their care.

“This report confirms that the Republicans’ latest health care plan would be as expensive and horrific for Hoosiers as their previous proposals: slashing Indiana’s Medicaid and imposing an age tax on older Americans, while spiking costs and stripping away coverage for pre-existing conditions,” said David Bergstein of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “The GOP health care agenda is despised by voters of every political persuasion, and if they continue pushing forward with this toxic bill voters will hold Republican Senate candidate like Reps. Rokita and Messer accountable in 2018.”
