One Year Ago Today: Heller Caves To Trump, Comes Back To The Negotiating Table On Health Care

After promising to protect pre-existing condition coverage, Heller eventually backed a plan that would slash those protections, impose an age tax, & spike premiums

One year ago today, Senator Dean Heller caved to political pressure from President Trump and began reversing his position on health care, ultimately casting the deciding vote to advance the GOP health care bill that he had previously condemned. Heller’s decision to sell out Nevadans’ health care came after holding a dramatic televised press conference alongside the governor denouncing the Republican health care agenda.

To mark this anniversary, today Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman David Bergstein released the following statement:

“After delivering a lengthy, scathing explanation about how the GOP’s health care agenda would hurt hardworking Nevadans, one year ago today, Senator Heller folded to political pressure from President Trump and returned to the negotiating table. Heller ultimately cast the deciding vote to advance the plan he’d just condemned, and backed another radical repeal plan that would spike premiums, impose an age tax, and slash coverage protections for pre-existing conditions. This moment is a perfect demonstration of the spineless, self-serving politics voters of every political persuasion despise about Senator Heller.”
