Toomey’s Trade Reversal Shows Just How Panicked He Is About Re-Election Prospects
Today’s announcement that Senator Pat Toomey opposes the trade agreement he once touted as “important” is a clear sign of just how panicked Toomey is about his re-election prospects in November. In addition to voting to fast track the TPP, Toomey has supported numerous job-killing trade deals that shipped Pennsylvania jobs overseas.
Toomey’s announcement comes after weeks of polls showing Katie McGinty leading Toomey as the race heads into the fall. Four polls in the last two weeks show McGinty with the lead, and now Senator Toomey is hoping this blatantly political flip-flop will help his plummeting stock in Pennsylvania.
“Senator Toomey’s announcement is nothing more than a desperate election year stunt by a politician who is increasingly worried about his own political career,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Pennsylvanians will see through Toomey’s panicked reversal as the political posturing it is, and will elect a Senator in November who is always looking out for their best interests, not just when their job is on the line.”
