While Senate Republican candidates continue to stand behind Donald Trump and trust him with the nuclear codes, (though they refuse to answer if he’s qualified to serve as commander-in-chief) an actual former commander-in-chief has made it clear he cannot vote for Donald Trump this November.
Politico reported that President George H.W. Bush, who is also a former Director of the CIA, plans to vote for Hillary Clinton this fall, becoming just the latest leading Republican and national security expert making it clear that a Donald Trump presidency would be dangerous and disastrous for our nation. Unfortunately for families across the country, their vulnerable Republican Senators aren’t among that group of Republicans denouncing Trump.
“As our former commander-in-chief, President Bush understands that Donald Trump has neither the temperament nor the knowledge to be our next commander-in-chief, and his refusal to support Trump demonstrates that our country’s national security is far more important than party affiliation. But Senate Republican candidates continue to lack the judgment or character needed to stand up to Trump and admit that he is unfit to lead,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “As more and more Republican and national security leaders turn their backs on Donald Trump, Senate Republicans’ decision to stand with Trump looks more irresponsible with each passing day.”
