GOP Presidential Nominee’s Racist Crusade Ends with a Lie, Candidates Running with Him Must Tell Voters if They Stand with Their Standard Bearer
Following Donald Trump’s dishonest claims about his role in helping to create the birther movement and his years-long effort to keep that racist crusade alive with the complicity of the Republican Party, DSCC Communications Director Sadie Weiner issued the following statement:
“Another day, another disgusting display of Donald Trump’s arrogance and allergy to the truth. He helped start the birther movement and gave rise to one of the most obscene efforts undertaken to discredit President Obama. However, he was aided and abetted by a cowardly Republican Party – the very same that has nominated him for the presidency and continue to support his candidacy. He continues to disqualify himself and yet Republican Senate candidates continue to stand by his side. Today, these Senate candidates must answer if they think Donald Trump should apologize to the American people for the absurd lies he has spread about President Obama and why they continue to support a campaign that provides a safe harbor for this type of disgusting race-baiting.”
