Six Months Later: Braun’s #GOPTaxScam Still Benefits the Wealthy at Expense of Middle Class Hoosiers

Republicans passed their #GOPTaxScam six months ago and former state Representative Braun supported a bill that has allowed health care companies to pocket billions without passing any of those savings onto patients, jeopardizes vital programs like Medicare, and irresponsibly increases the national debt by $1.9 trillion. Like the rest of their unpopular agenda, the GOP tax law was designed to appease Republicans’ wealthy donors and benefits the wealthiest few and special interests at the expense of the middle class. It’s no surprise that the tax law’s unpopularity is growing.

Here’s how Braun and Congressional Republicans’ tax scam are negatively impacting middle class Hoosiers.

CNBC: Tax cut riches have gone to execs and investors over workers by nearly 3-to-1 margin.

Washington Post: “The Republican tax law passed last fall will give the richest 1 percent of Americans an average personal income tax break of about $33,000, while the poorest Americans will receive an average personal income tax break of $40, according to a new study published this week by nonpartisan analysts.”

Washington Post: For the biggest group of American workers, wages aren’t just flat. They’re falling.

Senator Rubio: “There’s no evidence whatsoever that the money’s been massively poured back into the American worker.”

“Former state Representative Braun made his priorities clear when he supported a tax scam that makes life more expensive for the middle class,” said Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman David Bergstein. “Hoosiers deserve a Senator who will put their interests first, not those of their donors or their own political self-interest – and voters will hold Braun accountable.”
