When Will Richard Burr Get It?

Senator Burr has stood firm in his support for North Carolina’s discriminatory law, known as HB2, falsely claiming it “does not discriminate” and that it wouldn’t hurt North Carolina’s economy.  Burr has been wrong on both counts, and today yet another company announced it would cancel a planned 1,000 job expansion in North Carolina because of HB2.

Today, the CEO of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce clearly stated the Chamber’s opposition to the legislation, highlighting HB2’s negative effects on the state’s economy. From WRAL:

…Giuliani is adamant that the bill must go. He declared that worse economic damage is coming.

“Several other companies have eliminated us from consideration, explicitly citing this bill,” he said.

“Our Convention and Visitors Bureau is reporting over $3.2 million in lost revenues, and much more is at risk.”

…”Due to the economic impact and negative reputation HB2 has created for our area, the Chamber is issuing a formal policy position opposing the legislation.”

Will Senator Burr listen to North Carolina business leaders and now the CEO of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and denounce HB2, or will he continue his shameful support for the law that is damaging the North Carolina economy?

“It seems like every day brings a new story about how HB2 is hurting North Carolina’s economy, but Senator Richard Burr is still a staunch defender of the law,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Senator Burr should join the growing chorus of people who recognize HB2’s harmful impact and denounce the law for the discriminatory measure it is. It is shameful that he is supporting something that is costing his state thousands of jobs, and North Carolina deserves better.”
