  • Press Release
  • DSCC Statement on Tax Day

Ahead of Tax Day and as Republican Senate candidates stand by Trump’s Tax Giveaways that “overwhelmingly benefited the rich and corporations,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Tommy Garcia issued the following statement:

“When Republicans were in charge, they used the Senate to give tax handouts to their donors, the wealthiest few and big corporations that get rich by keeping prices high – all while jeopardizing Medicare and Social Security. Republican Senate candidates have made it clear they support these wrong priorities and unpopular policies – and in 2024 voters will hold them accountable for pushing the interests of the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of hard-working Americans.”

See how “Republican U.S. Senate candidates want to make Trump’s tax cuts permanent” and “rally around Trump’s tax cuts for the rich.”

    • In Arizona → “Kari Lake… has explicitly called for preserving Trump’s tax law. ‘We agree that we don’t want Trump’s tax cuts to end,’ Lake said.”

    • In Florida → “Sen. Rick Scott, who is up for reelection in 2024, released what he called the ‘Rescue America Plan,’ one of the provisions of which is titled ‘Make the Trump tax cuts permanent.’”

    • In Maryland → “Larry Hogan…told The Atlantic in May 2022 that Trump’s tax cuts were one of the…things he liked about the Trump presidency.”

    • In Michigan → “Former Rep. Mike Rogers…told the PBS program ‘Off the Record’ in 2023 that… [Trump’s] tax cuts for the rich were representative of core Republican principles.”

    • In Nevada → “Sam Brown…signed the Americans For Tax Reform Taxpayer Protection Pledge… American For Tax Reform has opposed efforts to undo the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”

    • In Ohio → “[Moreno’s] campaign website listed protecting the law as a top priority.’”

    • In Pennsylvania → “‘I think the policy we should have going forward on taxes and the economy is to make permanent the Trump tax cuts,’ McCormick said at a 2022 campaign forum.”

    • In Texas → “In 2018, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz…introduced an amendment that would have made the Trump income tax cuts permanent.”

    • In Wisconsin → “Hovde said… ‘[Trump’s] deregulation program and obviously his tax reform act was very good for businesses.’”

    Let’s Win Back the Senate

When we say that Senate Democrats are counting on grassroots donors, we’re not kidding. In fact, 98% of donations to the DSCC during the 2024 election came from donors giving less than $200.

And every gift you give the DSCC is a gift that helps propel Democratic Senate candidates to victory.
