After Months Opposing Relief Checks, Will Loeffler & Perdue Demand McConnell Call a Vote?

McConnell Admitted That Loeffler And Perdue — Two Of The Wealthiest Senators in Washington — Were “Getting Hammered” On Campaign Trail For Delaying Economic Relief

Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue — two of Washington’s wealthiest senators who spent the days and weeks after the pandemic hit making millions of dollars worth of “well-timed” stock transactions — opposed direct relief for Georgians for months. As they changed their position a week before the runoff election, will they demand Mitch McConnell hold a vote on the bipartisan, House-passed proposal for $2,000 checks?

“Senators Perdue and Loeffler were quick to act to protect their personal stock portfolios, but dragged their feet for months when it came to supporting the economic relief that Georgians desperately need,” said DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “These two ultra-wealthy politicians have been playing politics with this public health and economic crisis since day one – they were happy to take credit for an inadequate relief package, but only supported providing sufficient aid to Georgians after significant public pressure and still refuse to demand the Senate hold a vote on the bipartisan, House-passed measure to deliver $2,000 relief checks to the American people. These are two of the most self-serving and corrupt Senators in Washington, and Georgians will send them packing next week.”

McConnell admitted both Loeffler and Perdue are “getting hammered” for blocking urgently needed relief. Both senators stood against extending emergency unemployment relief and were absent from the last week of negotiations on the coronavirus relief bill. Only after weeks of sustained pressure from Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock did Senators Perdue and Loeffler reverse their opposition to increased stimulus checks.
