Court Upholds Straight-Ticket Voting, Ruling with DSCC & DCCC in Lawsuit to Prevent Voter Suppression

The Executive Directors of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued the following statement on the court ruling to uphold straight-ticket voting. The committees filed a lawsuit against a state law sought to eliminate straight-ticket voting, which would drive up already-high wait times at polling places across the state, particularly in African American and Hispanic communities:

“We committed to voters in Texas that we would fight any obstacle to freely and fairly participating in our elections, and this ruling underscores why that work is so important. Without straight-ticket voting, Texans would have experienced longer lines and wait times at polling places across the state, an unacceptable barrier that would have impacted minority communities. We are relieved the court has upheld straight-ticket voting and struck down this harmful law.”
