The DSCC is making a seven-figure investment in Jaime Harrison’s campaign to bolster spending on paid advertising and other resources as he faces a tightened race against Senator Lindsey Graham. The historic investment in South Carolina follows internal and public polling data that confirms a neck-and-neck race, with a Quinnipiac poll released yesterday showing the race is tied. Harrison’s grassroots-power campaign has repeatedly outraising Senator Graham, and this morning announced they raised $1 million in just 24 hours.
The DSCC’s coordinated investment will support TV ads as well as polling, field organizing and data tools, and other resources.
“There’s a clear choice in this toss-up race between a career Washington politician who’s abandoned his state and his principles and Jaime Harrison, who will lead with character and restore hope to South Carolina,” said DSCC Executive Director Scott Fairchild. “The massive grassroots support behind Jaime’s movement to unseat Senator Graham has put this race firmly in play, and this investment reflects our continued commitment to expanding the map and growing our offensive opportunities this cycle.”
Jaime Harrison’s campaign has outraised Senator Graham for the past two quarters, and recently announced raising a whopping $10.6 million in August — more than Graham raised during the entire Q2 fundraising period. Election analysts including Cook Political Report, Crystal Ball, and POLITICO have all moved their rating of the South Carolina Senate race towards Harrison because of the strength of his campaign.
