Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement congratulating former Governor John Hickenlooper on advancing to the general election in Colorado:
“John Hickenlooper doesn’t shy away from taking on the toughest problems, which is how he expanded health care coverage to 500,000 Coloradans, passed landmark gun safety measures, and set new climate standards that became a model for the rest of the nation. We need more Senators like John who will put politics aside to get things done and have the experience of bringing people together to find a path forward on the most urgent challenges of our time. John’s proven leadership as a successful governor and mayor underscore why Coloradans trust him and are ready to send him to the Senate. We’re proud to support John’s campaign to flip this seat.”
As Governor, Hickenlooper helped take Colorado from 40th in job creation to the top economy in the country, led the state’s successful Medicaid expansion, and enacted major gun safety measures and environmental protections. He’s consistently outraised vulnerable incumbent Senator Cory Gardner, most recently breaking Colorado Senate race records in the pre-primary filing and outraising Gardner by more than $1.6 million. Senator Gardner has become a “Yes-Man” for the president and has been with Trump “100%” — even when it hurts Colorado.
