Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement endorsing former Congressman and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy in the Mississippi U.S. Senate race:
“Mike Espy has spent his life listening to and serving all Mississippians, and his deep commitment to Mississippi families is evident in his unparalleled record of leadership for his state. In the Senate, Mike will keep fighting for Mississippi, working to support family farms, improve rural health care, and bring good jobs to communities across the state. We’re proud to endorse Mike Espy for Senate, and we look forward to supporting him in this race.”
Mike Espy was the first African American Congressman to represent Mississippi since Reconstruction and served as Secretary of Agriculture under President Bill Clinton, where he took on special interests and worked to lift up American farmers. As Mississippi’s Assistant Secretary of State and Assistant Attorney General and later in Congress, Mike has worked to bring opportunity to Mississippi’s rural communities, invest in public education, and protect consumers so that all Mississippians can get a fair shot.
