DSCC Launches New Pennsylvania Ad Campaign Highlighting Steps To Vote By Mail

As part of Democrats ‘Don’t Be Caught Naked’ campaign, spot reminds Pennsylvanians voting by mail to use the secrecy envelope ensuring ballots are not deemed ‘naked’ and disqualified.

Today the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is launching a new digital advertising campaign to remind Pennsylvanians who are voting by mail to use their secrecy envelope so that their ballot is not deemed “naked” and disqualified.

The ads are part of Democrats’ ‘Don’t Be Caught Naked’ voter education campaign about the steps to vote by mail, which has included events in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh – and earlier this week a plane flying a banner over West Philadelphia reading “COVER UP, PA! NO NAKED BALLOTS! VISIT IWILLVOTE.COM/PA.”

The ad campaign will be backed by six figures and will reach likely voters in Pennsylvania across a variety of platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Connected TV and Snapchat starting on Thursday. The ads direct voters to IWillVote.com/PA.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Patrick Burgwinkle: “Pennsylvania is home to one of the most consequential Senate races in the country this year and every vote will matter, which is why the DSCC is making sure Pennsylvanians have a plan to vote and that they use the secrecy envelope to ensure their ballot is counted.”

PennLive: ‘Don’t be caught naked,’ Pa. Democrats warn voters
By J.D. Prose
October 3, 2022

  • Pennsylvania Democrats have a bit of advice for voters this year: Don’t be caught naked.
  • No, it’s not a reminder to wear clothes to the polls, it’s a cheeky new campaign kicking off Tuesday in Philadelphia to stress using secrecy envelopes when voting by mail. The “secrecy” envelope is the first envelope a mail-in ballot must go into before being placed in a larger envelope.
  • “Pennsylvania is home to some of the most consequential races in the country this year and every vote counts,” said U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, in a PA Democrats statement provided to PennLive.com.
  • Casey will be the featured speaker at the “Don’t Be Caught Naked” voter education campaign’s Tuesday kick-off event. Similar events will later be held in the Lehigh Valley and Pittsburgh, and the campaign will include advertising and other outreach efforts.
  • “Voting by mail is a convenient and reliable way for Pennsylvanians to fulfill their civic duty and make their voices heard,” Casey said. “We need to ensure voters across the commonwealth are properly informed about the steps they need to take to make sure their vote is counted.”

Bucks County Courier Times: Democrats launch naked ballot campaign ahead of midterms

  • A banner flew over Philadelphia Tuesday morning warning voters to “cover up” their mail-in ballots in the provided secrecy envelopes for the midterm election.
  • The plane towing the message “COVER UP, PA! NO NAKED BALLOTS! VISIT IWILLVOTE.COM/PA” was part of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s “Don’t Get Caught Naked” campaign to prevent mail ballots from being spoiled after the polls close on Nov. 8.
  • No-excuse mail-in ballots created by Act 77 of 2019 allow a voter to cast their ballot by mail even if they’ll be in their home precinct on Election Day, but missing secrecy envelopes, often referred to as naked ballots, or other defects could prevent those ballots from being tallied.

  • When it comes to casting your mail-in ballot this midterm campaign season, Pennsylvania Democrats would really, really appreciate it if you didn’t go naked.
  • No, that’s not a reminder to wear pants to your local county elections office (you’d probably feel the draft anyway). Rather, it’s part of a recently launched campaign to remind voters to use their secrecy envelopes when they vote by mail this fall.
  • The ‘secrecy’ envelope, by the way, is that blank envelope your ballot has to go into before you put it into the larger envelope that you drop in your mailbox, deposit at your county elections office, or another drop-off point.
