DSCC Statement On Joe O’Dea

Today, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Patrick Burgwinkle issued the following statement on Colorado GOP nominee Joe O’Dea:

“Joe O’Dea is a self-serving millionaire who got rich by taking advantage of workers, spent his campaign cozying up to Trump, and in the Senate he’d be nothing more than a rubber stamp for Republicans’ far right agenda that hurts Coloradans. He opposes protecting a woman’s right to choose, is against common sense gun safety proposals and wants to slash Medicare and Social Security. His record is totally out of step with the voters who will decide Colorado’s general election, and they will decisively reject his campaign in November.”

What To Know About Joe O’Dea:

O’Dea is a self-serving CEO who took advantage of his workers, and was accused of a discriminating against workers based on age and disability. According to a lawsuit, O’Dea “asked the General Superintendent if the ‘old guys were a liability’” and then became determined to “make [elderly workers] disappear.”

O’Dea is deeply out-of-step with Colorado voters on choice. O’Dea opposes legislation protecting the right to an abortion in Colorado, even calling it “reckless,” and said he would have voted for every Trump and Bush appointed Justice who overturned Roe v. Wade

O’Dea supports slashing Social Security and Medicare, ripping away Colorado seniors’ hard earned benefits.

  • Colorado Times Recorder: O’Dea’s “enthusiasm for shrinking government includes a willingness to cut Medicare and Social Security, two overwhelmingly popular programs that have kept literally billions of Americans out of poverty.”

O’Dea opposes common-sense gun safety measures and would be a rubber-stamp for the Gun Lobby in the U.S. Senate.

  • Joe O’Dea: “We don’t need more gun control laws.”

  • Colorado Times Recorder: “O’Dea said he did not want any more gun laws to be passed… ‘We’ve got law after law after law on the books right now,’ O’Dea said. ‘You cannot legislate against evil.’”

  • Colorado Sun: O’Dea “declined to support the bipartisan Senate framework on new gun regulations.”

O’Dea said he would support Trump in 2024 – a position that is out-of-touch with the overwhelming majority of Colorado voters.

  • Colorado Sun: O’Dea said he “would support Trump for president if he is the Republican presidential nominee in 2024.”
