DSCC Statement On Senate Republicans’ Plan To Gut Social Security & Medicare

In response to Senator Lindsey Graham pledging that if Republicans control the Senate, “entitlement reform is a must,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Nora Keefe issued the following statement:

“From Rick Scott to Lindsey Graham, Senate Republicans are explaining in their own words why their candidates should not be elected. Their toxic agenda would put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, ripping away seniors’ hard earned benefits – and it will lead their campaigns to defeat in November.”

Reminder:

• The Republican plan to end Social Security would rip benefits away from over 65 million Americans, including 97% of seniors, pushing more than 16 million older Americans into poverty.

• The Republican plan to end Medicare would kick over 61 million Americans off of their health care.
