EQUAL PAY DAY: Pat Toomey Opposes Paycheck Fairness

Women in Pennsylvania face a 24% wage gap, but Pat Toomey has repeatedly opposed measures to help end pay discrimination

Equal Pay Day – which marks how far into the year women have to work to earn the same as men did in the previous year – serves as a stark reminder that Republicans like Pat Toomey have a long record of opposing measures to help ensure pay equity.

In Pennsylvania, women earn just 76 cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts. Pat Toomey has repeatedly opposed measures that work towards ensuring pay equity, including the Paycheck Fairness Act which would have strengthened protections for women fighting pay discrimination.

“While Democrats across the country fight to ensure equal pay for equal work, Republicans like Pat Toomey have repeatedly opposed solutions that would help women overcome a drastic pay gap,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Pay equity is an issue of basic economic fairness that has serious consequences for women and their families and Pat Toomey should be ashamed of prioritizing partisanship over commonsense efforts to end pay discrimination.”

Toomey Voted Against The Paycheck Fairness Act Five Times. [Vote 82, 3/24/15; Vote 262, 9/15/14; Vote 260, 9/10/14; Vote 103,4/9/14; Vote 115, 6/5/12]
