Following Historic Victories, Sen. Gary Peters to Return As DSCC Chair for 2024 Cycle

Sens. Smith, Padilla to serve as DSCC Vice-Chairs

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced today that Senator Gary Peters (D-MI) will return as Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) for the 2024 campaign cycle.

As DSCC chair during the 2022 cycle, Sen. Peters led Senate Democrats to the best midterm  results in modern history – and now he will bring the same successful strategies to protecting and strengthening Senate Democrats’ majority in 2024.

Additionally, Majority Leader Schumer announced today that Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) and Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) will serve as the DSCC’s Vice Chairs, working to support Chairman Peters and Leader Schumer in the effort to defend our Democratic senate majority.

“Gary is a battle tested, proven winner whose hard work led Senate Democrats to defy the political odds and to one of our best midterm results in recent history. Under his leadership we will continue our campaign victories in 2024,” said Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “By adding Tina and Alex to our campaign leadership team, we’ll further increase the DSCC’s expertise and capacities. I know this is the dream team to strengthen and protect our majority so that Senate Democrats can continue delivering for the American people. I look forward to working very closely with this team to achieve this goal.”

“Senate Democrats won big in 2022 by working hard and taking nothing for granted – and that’s the same approach I will bring to our campaigns in 2024, ” said DSCC Chair Sen. Gary Peters.  “Alongside Tina and Alex, I look forward to protecting and strengthening our Democratic majority, so that we can continue standing up for hard working Americans in the Senate and fighting back against Republicans’ chaotic, dangerous agenda.”

“Thanks in no small part to Senator Peters’ leadership in the 2022 cycle—and the strength of our candidates—Senate Democrats defied history and expanded our majority,” said DSCC Vice Chair Senator Tina Smith. “I’m delighted and ready to work alongside both Senator Peters and Senator Padilla to defend our majority so Democrats can continue to deliver for the American people.”

“Under Senator Peters’ leadership, the DSCC expanded our Democratic majority through their disciplined and innovative strategy,” said DSCC Vice Chair Sen. Alex Padilla.  “I look forward to building on our work this cycle to ensure Democrats can continue delivering for the American people in the majority, and I am grateful to Leader Schumer and my colleagues for this opportunity.”

Under Peters’ leadership of the DSCC in 2022 Senate Democrats expanded our majority to 51 seats, defending every incumbent and flipping the Pennsylvania Senate seat –  the first time since 1934 that the Democratic Party did not lose any Senate seats in a midterm while holding the White House. The ‘22 cycle under Peters also featured a strong focus on field organizing and direct voter contact, marking the first cycle the DSCC invested more in field programs than the committee’s Independent Expenditure advertising.
