The American Democracy Legal Fund filed a complaint against Congressman Todd Young last week, citing his misuse of congressional franking privileges to promote his political career. Since entering Congress in 2011, Young has spent more on franked mail than any other congressional representative from Indiana.
Young has spent a whopping $275,600 in taxpayer dollars on these mailers and paid more than $300,000 to two consulting firms. The complaint from the ADLF also details that Young’s mailers focus heavily on political content, rather than informing voters of legislative action like they are intended to do.
“Congressman Todd Young’s use of taxpayer dollars for his own political gain is exactly what Hoosiers hate about Washington,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “That’s why Evan Bayh supports a congressional reform plan that would eliminate the taxpayer funded mailing privileges Young has abused. Hoosiers deserve a Senator like Evan Bayh in Washington who will fight for them, not a Washington insider like Congressman Young who fights for himself and the special interests.”
