IN THE STATES: Senate Democrats Focus On Addressing Working Families’ Most Pressing Priorities During State Work Period

With Senate Democrats in their home states during this week’s work period, voters are reading and watching a wave of news coverage highlighting how Democrats like Sens. Cortez Masto, Hassan, Kelly, Warnock, and Bennet are fighting to address their constituents’ most pressing priorities: lowering costs and boosting American manufacturing, expanding health care access, and holding big corporations accountable for getting rich by raising prices.

AZ – KTVK (WATCH): Increasing Microchip Manufacturing in Arizona 

Senator Mark Kelly: “I’ve been working on legislation called the CHIPS Act that is going to provide grant money to bring manufacturing capacity back to the United States.”

AZ – KYMA: Arizona Senator announces $17M returned to state taxpayers

  • Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) has announced over $17 million has been returned to Arizonans since he was sworn into office in December 2020. Senator Kelly’s constituent services team closed at least 6,000 cases throughout the years to help Arizona taxpayers receive benefits and payments owed by the federal government.

  • “Serving Arizonans in the U.S. Senate is especially rewarding when my team and I help constituents cut through Washington’s bureaucracy to get what they are owed, whether it is a late Social Security payment or veterans’ benefits. As we celebrate this milestone of $17 million returned to Arizonans and look ahead to many more cases resolved, I encourage folks to reach out to my office should they need any help navigating federal agencies,” expressed Senator Kelly.

CO – Greeley Tribune: ‘You’ve earned it’: Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic officially opens in Loveland. 

  • Local veterans, officials, VA system members and even Sen. Michael Bennet packed a covered area just outside the front doors to celebrate the opening of the new clinic, which has been described as a one-stop shop offering mental health services, outpatient care, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry and more.

  • [Sen.] Bennet said that what the local community of veterans deserve is what the clinic will offer, a beautiful location that offers the highest quality care. He added that veterans in the community have waited for a clinic of this kind for long enough.
  • He added the project is a credit to the community of veterans who have supported it and waited for it through the years.
  • “This is the kind of care our veterans have earned and deserve,” Bennet said. He later added, “After all our veterans have sacrificed for us, this is the least we can do for them.”

CO – KDVR: New Loveland VA clinic will provide services to vets in multiple states

  • “A new veterans clinic in Loveland is providing services that some had to drive hours to receive including dental work, radiology and physical rehab. … Officials from the Department of Veteran Affairs and U.S. Senator Michael Bennet were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.”

GA – 13WMAZ: Senator Raphael Warnock supports Georgia farmers on mental health

  • Senator Raphael Warnock visited Dickey Farms Tuesday to talk about protecting the mental health of farmers. He says on a scale of 1 to 5, farmers on average rank their stress level as 4. Senator Warnock says bringing awareness to mental health helps chip away at the stigma. He says mental health care is health care.

  • Senator Raphael Warnock pushed to secure $10 million to support “the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network.” The program helps connect farmers to stress resources.
  • “From a public policy standpoint, we’ll be doing everything we can. I will be doing everything I can as a member of the agriculture committee to give Georgia farmers the support that they need,” Warnock said.
  • Senator Warnock says he wants to do everything he can to open up supply chains to help drive down price in turn, hopefully driving down the stress for Georgia farmers.

  • “We were able to get $10 million in additional support for a network to support our farmers and our ranchers,” he said. “As I go back to D.C., I’ll be focusing on bringing more people the resources they need.”
  • Senator Warnock says in addition to the physical resources, he’s focusing on bringing telehealth to rural farming communities.

NH – New Hampshire Union Leader: Hassan urges getting generic drugs to market faster

  • Citing worry about “patents of questionable validity,” Sens. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., are urging closer cooperation between the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

  • In a letter sent Wednesday to the director of the patent office and the commissioner of the FDA, Cassidy and Hassan argue that drug companies are gaming this process and filing new patents on existing drugs to keep competitors out of the market for longer.

NV – KLAS 8 News Now: Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s reality-based training center helps officers prepare for critical scenarios

  • It’s a facility to help local police officers prepare for the worst. Nevada law enforcement officers say they will be as ready as possible, thanks to a new training center.
  • At Metro’s newest reality-based training center, Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen secured $3 million in federal funding to help buy technology, training equipment, and other resources.
  • “Ensuring that our law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, everyone have the tools they need and the ability to train and prepare for whatever may come their way to keep our community safe. “We never know what is around the corner,” Sen. Cortez Masto tells 8 News Now.

NV – KLAS: I-15, Tropicana Interchange Project launches

  • The Nevada Department of Transportation, will officially launch the I-15 and Tropicana Interchange Project.
  • The press conference featured several members and representatives of Nevada’s congressional delegation including Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Senator Jacky Rosen, and Congresswoman Dina Titus. All speakers echoed the notion that the project will bring thousands of jobs and improve safety and transportation times for Nevadans and visitors.
  • The project, which will take roughly three years, and be divided into four sections, will replace the nearly 60-year-old Tropicana bridge, as well as accommodate capacity for future growth and access.

NV – Nevada Current: Bureau of Land Management  cuts costs for clean energy developers looking to build on public lands

  • The Biden administration said on Wednesday it will significantly reduce the amount it charges companies to build wind and solar projects on public land, a move meant to incentivize renewable energy development.

  • Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto joined Haaland for a press conference on the announcement Wednesday. Cortez Masto said the bipartisan infrastructure law passed by the Senate last year will also help Nevada develop more renewable energy by allowing former hard-rock mining sites to be used as solar facilities. 
  • “Nevada is an innovation state. We are building the cutting-edge economy of the 21st century. We are developing solutions to some of our most urgent energy and climate problems,” Cortez Masto said.
