IN THE STATES: Wall-To-Wall Coverage Highlights GOP Senate Candidates’ Attacks On Women’s Health Care

The Hill: Swing state Democratic parties hold coordinated ‘day of action’ on abortion

Wall-to-wall coverage in the Senate battlegrounds is highlighting how Democrats are joining with voters, doctors, local leaders and women’s health care advocates to speak out against Republican Senate candidates’ agenda criminalizing abortion and taking away a woman’s right to make their own health care decisions.

In Arizona, Arizona Democrats held a rally to call out GOP Senate candidates’ plans to criminalize abortion and take away a woman’s right to make their own health care decisions.

  • Fox Phoenix: Rally against Roe v. Wade decision. “Several Democratic lobbyists joining Democratic lawmakers in a rally against ending Roe v. Wade… Democrats [are] also using the platform to call out their counterparts including Arizona’s Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Brnovich… members also speaking out against Republican candidates Blake Masters and Jim Lamon.”

In Florida, the Florida Democratic Party held a virtual press conference with local leaders calling out Rubio’s attacks on women’s healthcare.

In Georgia, the Georgia Democratic Party held a press conference highlighting how Herschel Walker and the field of GOP Senate candidates would ban abortions even in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life.

  • Atlanta CW69 (VIDEO): “Congresswoman Nikema Williams and other Georgia officials held a press conference to talk about how to protect abortion rights… She’s not the only one to speak out on abortion rights: U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock says the news that came out on the Supreme Court has been devastating to a lot of women.”


  • WSB-TV (VIDEO): “Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told USA Today he could push for a national abortion ban if the GOP takes control in November…Channel Two’s Richard Elliot live in DeKalb County – and Richard, Democrats are ramping up the pressure on Republican candidates.”


In North Carolina,
North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson penned an op–ed emphasizing how Republicans’ latest effort to overturn Roe v. Wade has escalated the stakes of the 2022 election. The NCDP also held a press conference with Congresswoman Deborah Ross and local faith leaders calling out Republicans on this issue.

  • Indy Week (Op-Ed, Chair Richardson): Republicans’ Latest Effort to Push Their MAGA Agenda is Overturning Roe v. Wade. “The threats to health care and reproductive rights from the Republican Party are a troubling reminder of the severity of their MAGA agenda and of what’s at stake in 2022. This year, Democrats will take this fight to the ballot box and elect pro-choice Democrats who will ensure the fundamental right to equitable access to abortion and reproductive health care for everyone.”
  • ABC11 (VIDEO): “Make no mistake: North Carolina Democrats will continue to fight like hell to protect the right to access safe, legal abortion.”

In New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Democratic Party and state leaders held a virtual press conference on Tuesday and NH’s congressional delegation held a press conference on Monday to call out Republicans’ plan to ban abortion nationwide.

  • Nashua Telegraph: Dem leaders… on abortion. “On Tuesday, New Hampshire Democrats and Equality Health Center spoke to press about the need to protect abortion access in the Granite State.”
  • Union Leader: New Hampshire’s federal delegation vows to fight for abortion rights. “’I know we are going to continue to stand up for the freedom of each and every woman in New Hampshire and across the country,’ said Sen. Maggie Hassan Monday during a press conference at the Concord headquarters of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.”
  • WMUR (VIDEO): “They say if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, it’s likely just the first step.”

In Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party hosted a press conference in Scranton featuring Democratic elected officials and community leaders from across Northeastern Pennsylvania calling out Republicans’ anti-choice agenda. The press conference came on the heels of the PA Dems holding a reproductive rights rally.

  • WBRE: Pennsylvania Democrats vote for women’s rights. “Mayor Paige Cognetti, Action Together NEPA, and other public officials spoke to the media about Roe vs. Wade. Calling out Republicans for anti-choice agenda following a recent Supreme Court leak. Pennsylvania Democrats are calling on voters to choose the right candidate to make what they believe is the right decision.”
  • The Pottstown Mercury: Advocates for abortion rights rally in Montgomery County. Advocates for abortion rights and women’s health carried signs, sang protest anthems and shouted ‘we will not go back’ at a rally outside the Montgomery County Courthouse, making clear they are prepared to fight to keep abortion a legal option for women.”
  • ABC 6 (VIDEO): “A rally in Philadelphia by Democrats emphasized how high the stakes are for reproductive rights in 2022.”

And in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Democratic Party held a virtual press event with Democratic leaders and Wisconsin doctors to discuss the consequences of overturning Roe v. Wade and the dangerous impact of Senator Ron Johnson’s continued efforts to take away women’s rights to make their own decisions about their healthcare.

  • Wisconsin Examiner: Providers consider what they’ll do if abortion is outlawed in Wisconsin. “Participants in the online news conference, organized by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, spoke about the impact of a draft Supreme Court opinion that was reported last week in which five justices had indicated they supported overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide.”
