Joint Statement From DSCC, DNC, DCCC, DGA on MAGA Republican Agenda to Gut Social Security and Medicare

On the one year anniversary of Republican Senator Rick Scott releasing the GOP plan to threaten Social Security and Medicare, DSCC Chair Gary Peters, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene, and DGA Chair Phil Murphy released the following statement:

“One year after Rick Scott released his party’s plan to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, gutting these essential programs is now central to MAGA Republicans’ agenda. Republican senate candidates, representatives, and elected officials across the country have doubled down on this extreme agenda, which would hurt America’s working families and seniors.

“And it’s not just Rick Scott’s plan. The Republican Study Committee, which represents a majority of House Republicans, proposed gutting Social Security and Medicare, while potential and announced 2024 Republican Senate candidates are already echoing their party’s agenda to attack these programs. And 2024 Republican presidential hopefuls are making gutting these critical programs a key part of their platforms as they race to win over the MAGA base.

“Protecting Social Security and Medicare will be one of the most important issues in the 2024 election cycle, and every Republican candidate must answer whether they support their party’s extreme agenda to cut these programs. Democrats stand united in our fight to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.”
