After spending days engaged in procedural stunts designed to obstruct desperately needed pandemic relief, every single Senate Republican voted against the urgently needed American Rescue Plan. Republicans voted against delivering long-overdue relief that has “broad, bipartisan support” at a time when more than half a million Americans have died from COVID-19, more than 28 million Americans have been infected, and so many more have lost their jobs, seen their small businesses close, or had their lives upended during this crisis.
“Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have spent the last month using one empty political stunt after another to block Coronavirus relief for struggling families who cannot afford to wait, but help is finally on the way,” said DSCC Chair Gary Peters. “This legislation has overwhelming support because voters know it will lay the groundwork to defeat this pandemic, give our communities the resources they need, and jumpstart a stronger economic recovery. Republicans who opposed this commonsense plan to put relief checks in people’s pockets, expand vaccine access, help our schools safely reopen faster and rescue our small businesses will be held accountable for their votes.”
