At a time when our nation faces unprecedented threats, Senators Mark Kirk, Roy Blunt, and John Boozman, have once more put politics over national security in voting against Ashton Carter’s nomination to be Secretary of Defense. Kirk, Blunt, and Boozman were three of just five Republicans to vote against Carter, who John McCain called “one of America’s most experienced defense professionals, respected by Republicans and Democrats alike.”
“Playing politics is supposed to end at the water’s edge, but Roy Blunt, John Boozman and Mark Kirk refuse to responsibly govern even when our security is on the line,” said Sadie Weiner, National Press Secretary at the DSCC. “Despite pockets of unrest all around the world, Senators Kirk, Blunt and Boozman would rather score meaningless political points than install a well-respected defense expert to run the Pentagon who has been praised by members of both parties.”
