Rubio votes against gun safety measures while using gun violence as his pivot to re-enter race
We know that at the scene of the tragic Orlando attack, Marco Rubio was considering his political future. But apparently, he wasn’t thinking about how to prevent the next mass shooting in America or keep Floridians safe, as last night Rubio joined with his Republican colleagues to block bipartisan legislation closing the terrorist gun loophole.
For all the folks wanting to ask Rubio questions about his own political future, he now must answer the questions from Floridians and the victims of gun violence nationwide:
“Senator Rubio you looked in my face and told me there was nothing you could do about gun responsibility because you were voting for immigration and now look what has happened at your door. I compel you to join us, to join the movement. To be on the right side of history.”
“While the political class is wondering what Marco Rubio will say about his re-election plans, survivors of gun violence and families of victims in Florida and across the country are wondering how he’ll explain turning his back on them again,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “Even after the worst mass shooting in American history, in his own backyard, Rubio continued to block commonsense, bipartisan legislation to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists. His shameful vote proves that Rubio is more concerned about his own place in history than being on the right side of history.”
