Despite three recounts, two certifications, the Electoral College, and now other top Senate Republicans (including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and NRSC Chair Todd Young) finally accepting reality, unelected Senator Kelly Loeffler told reporters this morning that “she hasn’t decided yet whether she will object to Joe Biden’s Electors on Jan. 6 in Congress” as she continues refusing to acknowledge the fact that Joe Biden won Georgia in November and is now the President-elect of the United States. Loeffler’s comments come a day after McConnell “warned” his caucus not to object to the Electoral College certification next month because it would be a “terrible vote” for Republicans.
Loeffler isn’t alone. The AJC reported yesterday that Senator David Perdue is still telling his supporters “it’s not over yet” for Trump and the outgoing president “still has recourses.”
Last week, Senators Loeffler and Perdue backed a “brazen” Texas lawsuit asking the U.S. Supreme Court to “toss out” their own state’s election results, issuing a joint statement proclaiming they “fully support” the outrageous lawsuit that Georgia’s Republican Attorney General has called “constitutionally, legally and factually wrong.” Loeffler and Perdue’s false attacks on Georgia’s election system in November prompted a scathing above-the-fold front-page AJC editorial that slammed the incumbents for their “dangerous behavior.”
“It is long overdue for Senators Loeffler and Perdue to finally acknowledge that Joe Biden carried Georgia, decisively won the election and will be inaugurated as President of the United States next month,” said DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Kelly Loeffler’s deeply irresponsible suggestion that she’s open to objecting to Joe Biden’s electors in Congress in January and still won’t accept the results of this election is a threat to our democracy and an insult to the millions of Georgians who voted in November’s election.”
