Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokeswoman Lauren Passalacqua released the following statement:
“This relief package includes free testing, paid sick leave, enhanced unemployment insurance and food assistance — critical resources Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the Senate delayed for days. At a time when Americans are making the adjustments and sacrifices needed to confront this public health and economic crisis, it is inexcusable that Senate Republicans continued with business-as-usual obstruction that slowed down our national response. It is imperative that GOP senators start acting with the urgency that this national emergency demands in the days and weeks ahead.”
The vote today follows Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s decision to send the Senate home last Thursday — having Senators leave Washington for a long weekend without working to finalize the aid package. McConnell was “absent” in negotiations as Democratic leaders worked to reach a deal with the White House on this relief package.
