More Than 36 Million Americans Have Filed for Unemployment As McConnell Sees No “Urgency” To Act

Latest Report Follows New Analysis Nearly 27 Million Americans Have Lost Employer-Provided Insurance As Republicans Move Forward with Lawsuit to End the Affordable Care Act and Protections for Pre-Existing Conditions

DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss issued the following statement:

“More than 36 million Americans have now filed for unemployment, but Majority Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans do not feel any ‘urgency of acting immediately’ on the next phase of coronavirus relief. What exactly are they waiting for?”

Senate Republicans and President Trump have worked “hand in glove” on a failed response to the pandemic that’s left more than 36 million unemployed and 27 million likely without their employer-provided health insurance, and taken more than 84,000 lives. Despite the public health crisis, the GOP is moving forward with their lawsuit to end the health care law, pre-existing conditions protections and Medicaid expansion that so many more Americans now rely on. Republicans in Washington are also making it more difficult for the millions of newly-unemployed and uninsured Americans to get coverage by keeping ACA special enrollment closed

Instead of demanding accountability from the White House, Senate Republicans have praised the president — and the NRSC has confirmed there is “no daylight” between GOP senators and the president.
