The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is launching a new digital ad today to highlight how Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would rather let cash-strapped states and local governments impacted by the coronavirus go “the bankruptcy route” instead of working across the aisle to provide desperately needed federal relief. The ad will run as part of a four-figure digital buy.
McConnell’s comments came a day before U.S. jobless numbers reached 26 million, and analysts say the Majority Leader’s proposition risks “turning a potentially short recession into a prolonged depression.” While governors on both sides of the aisle have condemned the reckless comments that threaten state and local essential services and our economic recovery, vulnerable Republican incumbents are either falling in line with McConnell or refusing to speak out against a plan that threatens their states.
“Republican and Democratic governors agree that Mitch McConnell’s position that states should go bankrupt is irresponsible and dangerous – but Senate Republicans either agree with the Majority Leader or refuse to oppose him,” said DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “This is another liability for Republican Senate incumbents who’ve already blocked the aid state and local officials on the front lines of this crisis need.”
