On CNN, DSCC Chair Peters Highlights How Republicans’ Vote Against COVID Relief Will Be A Defining Issue of 2022 Campaigns

Sen. Peters: “Had the Republicans been in the majority in the Senate, all of the benefits that folks received, critical benefits for them to get through this pandemic, they would not have gotten it.”

A day after Minority Leader McConnell proudly declared that “100%” of Republicans’ agenda is “stopping this new administration” — including opposing the overwhelmingly popular American Rescue Plan –– DSCC Chair Gary Peters joined CNN’s Erin Burnett to discuss how the clear contrast between Senate Democrats and Republicans on delivering coronavirus relief to Americans will be the defining issue of 2022.

PETERS: EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN VOTED AGAINST COVID RELIEF

Erin Burnett: UpFront Now, Democratic Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, he is chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. So let me just ask you Senator, what do you think of your Republican colleagues who voted loudly against the Covid relief bill, now touting some of its benefits to their constituents?

Senator Peters: Well, it’s clearly outrageous. It’s clearly hypocrisy. And we are going to make sure that the voters back home in their individual states understand exactly where that member of the Senate voted. At a time when they needed relief to get through this pandemic, when families were struggling, when the need for a stimulus check, when restaurants needed relief to reopen, when schools needed to reopen, every single Republican––in both the House and in the Senate––every single one voted against that relief. And we’re going to remind voters from now until election day next year.

PETERS: IF REPUBLICANS HAD BEEN IN MAJORITY, AMERICANS WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN COVID RELIEF

Peters: It’s very clear that had the Republicans been in the majority in the Senate, all of the benefits that folks received, critical benefits for them to get through this pandemic, they would not have gotten it and they need to remember that come election time.
