QUICK CLIP: Ron Johnson’s Conspiracy Theory-Filled Interview

In a local TV interview yesterday, Senator Ron Johnson embraced a plethora of conspiracies ranging from dangerous anti-public health rhetoric to ludicrous theories questioning national security and our law enforcement agencies.

Here are the highlights:

  • On masking guidelines: “I think growing science is showing that masks have not been particularly effective.”
  • On COVID safety: “COVID is probably no worse, maybe even less severe, in terms of serious complications, than a seasonal flu.”
  • On recent reports detailing FBI warnings about national security: “It makes me incredibly suspicious…I’ve always believed that was a complete setup to be used exactly as it’s being used right now.”

Yesterday’s interview is the latest example of why the vulnerable incumbent has earned the title of “the Republican Party’s foremost amplifier of conspiracy theories and disinformation.”

“By continuing to promote dangerous conspiracies that endanger the health and safety of Wisconsinites and questioning the FBI’s ability to do their job, Ron Johnson is reminding Wisconsinites that the only person he cares about is Ron Johnson,” said DSCC spokesperson Amanda Sherman Baity. “Wisconsin voters are sick and tired of having their best interests sold out by Johnson and are ready to retire him.”

Take a look at Johnson’s long track record of promoting conspiracies to further his own political ambitions:
