QUICK CLIPS: DSCC Chair Peters Discusses Senate Republicans’ “Candidate Quality Issues” [MSNBC & SiriusXM]

Peters: Republican Senate candidates “on a continuum, it’s flawed to very flawed.”

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Chair Sen. Gary Peters joined MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss Senate Republicans’ candidate quality issues and how their recruits are “on a continuum… flawed to very flawed. Most of them are towards the very flawed.” Sen. Peters also joined SiriusXM’s The Laura Coates Show to discuss how Senate “Republicans have extreme positions on [reproductive freedom] and are focused on taking those rights away, having a national abortion ban.”

Andrea Mitchell: Senator Peters, you were credited with working miracles last cycle — so they rewarded you with the same tough job this cycle.

Sen. Peters: We’re going to do it again. It’s basically the same playbook. They’ve got candidate quality issues. Our candidates are superior. I say the Republican candidates — if I put them on a continuum, it’s flawed to very flawed. Most of them are towards the very flawed. Versus strong Democrats, both incumbents and candidates, and we run really good ground campaigns. That’s how we won last time, we’re going to do it again.

Laura Coates: Given yesterday’s vote, which meant that the IVF bill that was presented did not pass for the second time, I might add…What was your takeaway from the fact that failed in the Senate? And is this an opportunity to get voters, who maybe would have not ordinarily participated or leaned in, to see it your way?

Sen. Peters: Elections are always about a contrast between two folks who are on the ballot. And right now, with our Democratic Senate candidates and the Republicans, there are clear contrasts. Certainly candidate quality. There’s a big difference between the candidates. But particular issues are powerful. People care deeply about issues — reproductive freedom. People don’t want to see their rights taken away, and Republicans have extreme positions on that and are focused on taking those rights away, having a national abortion ban. And people feel that that’s simply not right.
