Ron Johnson’s Washington Allies Desperate To Distract From His Shady Campaign Finance History, Refusal To Keep Special Interests Out Of Wisconsin

This morning Ron Johnson’s D.C. allies launched a desperate and hypocritical campaign to distract voters from Johnson’s shady campaign finance history of financing his 2010 campaign with corporate dollars and refusing to disavow outside money. In fact, this week marks nearly two months since Russ Feingold proposed the “Badger Pledge” to keep outside money out of the Wisconsin Senate race – and nearly two full months of silence from Ron Johnson as he tries to outrun questions about his shady 2010 campaign finance scheme.

The irony is rich—Ron Johnson refuses to sign a pledge to keep outside money out of Wisconsin and then benefits from more than $500,000 in outside money (plus an NRSC billboard!).

And of course, Johnson is still actively refusing to answer questions about the $10 million “deferred compensation” package he was awarded by his company after spending $9 million of his own money on his Senate race – even after being hit with an FEC complaint.

“Ron Johnson is so desperate to avoid answering questions about his shady campaign finance history that his D.C. allies are launching misleading and hypocritical attacks,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC National Press Secretary. “There’s no question that it’s Ron Johnson who still owes Wisconsinites answers about his 2010 campaign finances, and Republicans’ latest attempt to prop up Johnson’s shaky reelection campaign won’t erase the questions haunting him.”
