As national Republicans eye an increasingly fragile majority, their special interest allies are already stepping in to try and save the day. This week, the Springfield News-Leader reported that Karl Rove’s dark money group One Nation will spend $800,000 on Blunt’s behalf in Missouri in an attempt to shore up his image.
And if the GOP’s panic about Blunt’s race wasn’t evident enough from the massive early ad buy, the Connecticut Mirror reports that David Koch himself is hosting a fundraiser for Blunt, along with August Wolf, Kelly Ayotte and Jerry Moran.
“With Kansas City immersed in playoff baseball, Roy Blunt is going for the special interest double play with a Karl Rove ad buy in the morning and a New York City David Koch fundraiser in the evening,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC Communications Director. “Blunt has spent his nearly two decades in Washington carrying water for lobbyists and special interests like Karl Rove and the Koch brothers, so it’s not surprising that they’re starting to panic about his slim reelection chances, but no amount of money from David Koch or the outside groups can erase Roy Blunt’s record of leaving Missourians hanging out to dry.”
