Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held another show vote despite the fact that Democrats are still negotiating with the White House over a massive relief package that — at this stage — still does not include necessary protections for working Americans, relief for hospitals, states and municipalities, and measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the relief programs. At the same time Republicans in the Senate are trying to smuggle last-minute anti-health care provisions into the draft bill.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokeswoman Lauren Passalacqua released the following statement:
“A bill that fails to provide adequate relief to workers, hospitals, states and municipalities, and opens the door to the abuse of hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars, isn’t a relief package — it’s another corporate giveaway from Washington Republicans. As negotiations continue, Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the Senate should be asked why they’re so committed to fighting for giant corporate interests at the expense of the health and economic security of their own constituents.”
