New Polling Shows Americans “Overwhelmingly In Favor” Of Democrats’ Infrastructure & Jobs Investment Agenda

Voters Strongly Back Rich And Giant Corporations Paying Their Fair Share

Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are once again prioritizing their corporate special interest allies and ultra-wealthy donors over the American people as they line up against investments in good-paying jobs and rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure. 

New polling from POLITICO and Morning Consult revealed that Americans are “overwhelmingly in favor of infrastructure investment” and “by a 2-to-1 margin, registered voters backed a hypothetical $3 trillion infrastructure package financed by tax increases on those making over $400,000 as well as raising the corporate tax rate.” Despite the enormous public approval for such measures, McConnell has already downplayed the possibility of any Republican backing in Washington.

POLITICO Playbook:

• Most Republicans so far are ruling out cooperation on infrastructure spending if it means raising the corporate tax rate to pay for it, which is exactly what Biden intends to do (from 21% to 28%).

• According to the latest weekly POLITICO/Morning Consult poll out today, Americans continue to be overwhelmingly in favor of infrastructure investment paid for with tax hikes.

• By a 2-to-1 margin, registered voters backed a hypothetical $3 trillion infrastructure package financed by tax increases on those making over $400,000 as well as raising the corporate tax rate.

• And 47% said they would be more likely to support an infrastructure plan if it were paid for by raising the corporate tax rate, vs. 21% who said they’d be less likely to support it and 31% who said that wouldn’t affect their thinking. Individual components that have been floated — on boosting electric vehicles, universal pre-K, low-income housing and more — also poll well.
